Glimpses from Kochi-Muziris Biennale 2016 – Part I

UNKNOWN + GALLIANO, BAD TRIP 2016

Daniele Galliano will inhabit this open studio space for the 108 days of the biennale. In the Unknown + Galliano, Bad Trip India studio, Galliano will meet and interact with Biennale artists and members of the public,who will in turn become subjects within the paintings to be exhibited in the space days.


SALMAN TOOR AND HASAN MUJTABA

Toor crafts images that employ design elements and visual language from both Eastern and Western pop culture and art history while Mujtaba is a student of the history of poet written in exile.


MARTIN WALDE

Multiple Choice 2012 is an installation of a seated figure cut from a single block of wax placed in the center of a darkened room.


YANG HONGWEI

Ye Yan Tu is an epic twelve-meter scroll produced with traditional Chinese paper and ink.


ACHRAF TOULOUB

Untitled (extended feelings) interrogates the meaning of Tradition today and its possible representation – by using a continuous motif of recurring figures walking and sitting on their knees, like mediating or waiting.


DAI XIANG

The New Along the River During the Qingming festival twenty-five metre-long panoramic, photographic scene digitally sewn together, inspired by Zhang Zeduan’s famous twelfth century song Dynasty work, The Riverside scene at Qingming Festival.


G R IRANNA

The mathematical symbol for infinity essentially formed from the union of two egg shaped forms, is used to represent a potential infinity.
