Serendipity Arts Foundation announces four promising artists for the 3rd edition of the Dharti Arts Residency, a three-month-long artists’ residency programme based in New Delhi at C 340, Defence Colony. The selected artists for the third edition of Dharti Arts Residency 2019 are: Dharmendra Prasad from Hatigaon in Guwahati, Assam; Farah Viraf Mulla from Mumbai; Khursheed Ahmad a Delhi-based Kashmiri artist, and Shazia Salam from Bangalore.

The artists for this year’s residency programme have been selected from numerous applicants from across the country. For the process of selection, an open call was announced, and applications came through Serendipity Arts Foundation’s website and social media pages. The final selection of artists was done by a jury comprising Hanif Qureshi, Premjish Achari and Samit Das along with members of the SAF team.

The Dharti Arts Residency, an annual, interdisciplinary, studio-based residency for emerging artists, provides its residents’ space and resources to develop their practice while working on new projects and interacting with the broader art community in the city. Dharti Arts Residency aims to be an incubator for productivity, to help artists forge relationships, learn from different practices and find inspiration in the urban landscape of New Delhi.

Ms. Smriti Rajgarhia, Director, Serendipity Arts Foundation said, “This is the third edition of the Dharti Arts Residency. For the last two years and through 2019’s programme, we intend to offer a critical space for artists to question, explore and work on their individual artistic practices while attempting to introduce them to the existing arts network and various institutions that could support and further their research and practice.”

The residency is held annually between the months of May and August. In the course of these three months, the four artists selected for the programme will participate in a line-up of peer-to-peer conversations, critique sessions, gallery and studio visits, artist talks and presentations.

The selected artists are offered accommodation and other necessary support for the residency allowing them space to develop, conceptualize and produce their projects. This year, the residency has also invited an in-house critic and residency programmer, Samira Bose, who will work with the residency artists, moderate the programme and schedule as well as document their progress throughout the tenure of the residency.

The residency open studio will start from 16th August 2019. The artists and their artwork may be also be featured as an exhibition at the Serendipity Arts Festival, Goa, a large scale multi-disciplinary arts initiative taking place in Panaji, Goa, between 15 – 22 December 2019.
