ArtBuzz Studios in collaboration with India Printmaker House presents ‘Printmaker’s Den’ with Shivangi Ladha, Nilanjan Das and Avni Bansal. An exciting 3-day workshop that will cover 3 techniques of printmaking – Etching, Chine colle and Collography with 3 amazing young artists par excellence! Get a chance to interact with them, see their portfolios and meet your peer group of printmakers – prior knowledge of printmaking is not necessary.
Day 1, 3rd April
- Introduction to the Intaglio process of printmaking
- Showing some old small prints of etching/video describing the process
- Distribution of etching plates
- Filing of the plate, packing the plate using tape and ground/black japan
- Basic line etching
Day 2, 4th April
- Introduction to Collograph
- Making of the plate using various materials and textures
- Proof prints of etching plate
Day 3, 5th April
- Demo of printing the plate,demo of doing chincole
- Helping participants print the plates of etching and collographs
Throughout the workshop, Shivangi, Nilanjan and Avni will be discussing their portfolios, work with you for any discussions you might be up for. This will be an interactive workshop.
Participants should be ready with a vague layout, the size of Collograph and zinc plate.
Details of the host artists:
Shivangi Ladha is a visual artist and has done her specialization in MA Printmaking from Royal College of Art (RCA), London in 2016. Her works are in permanent collections at The British Museum, V&A Museum, RCA’s Print Archives, East London Printmaker’s Archive, Mead Museum, Snap Studio’s Archive, and have been published in Art in Print Journal, USA; Art Soul Life Magazine and Platform Magazine, India.
Nilanjan Das is a printmaker & multidisciplinary artist based in Kolkata. He completed his M.F.A and graduation in printmaking from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata. He is interested in gender interaction and intimacy in the public domain.
Avni Bansal completed her Masters in Printmaking from M.S.U, Faculty of Fine Arts, in 2016 securing a gold medal after completing her bachelor’s degree from College of Art, Delhi. Her practice involves primarily printmaking and painting, mainly focusing on relief and serigraphy on both paper and cloth. She has exhibited in several important shows both in India and abroad like International Biennale of Small Graphics, Inter-Art Foundation, Romania, 2016; Stree Drishti- Contemporary Women Printmakers of India at Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Fine Art and Design, Poland and Regional Museum Guadalajara, Mexico, 2019; 8th Sofia Print Triennale, Bulgaria 2020. She has also bagged the National Award, 56th National Exhibition of Art, Lalit Kala Akademi in 2015.
